In one of the most energetic and entertaining BNI education moments you’ll ever witness, electrician Dave Bundy delivered his own brand of ed slot on the importance of Open Networking.
The Open Networking part of a BNI meeting happens before the official start time, and is where members arrive, mingle and chat. Sometimes members swerve off on their own to write their weekly presentation script, or to send emails from their phone. Often members will stand together chatting, instead of speaking with new members or visitors. This ed slot shows you the different approaches, and what you should be doing… and why!
Dave brought his own collection of wigs to the meeting to don for each character he played, with his quick changes becoming faster and more chaotic as the education slot went on. It’s very entertaining, but does convey an important message – don’t ignore visitors, don’t talk about yourself and don’t try to be pushy. If you have open conversations with visitors about their business, they’ll feel more relaxed, will enjoy the experience, will want to return (and maybe even apply) and perhaps also to give you business.
What do you think of Dave’s education slot? Is it something you could use in your chapter? We’d love to hear from you.
